Available with either an internal or external gps receiver the Northstar Explorer is suitable for boats of all sizes. External antenna units are best suited for below deck installations, while the internal receiver models are for above deck installations.

Although both receiver types are available, the  Explorer 550 was really designed with smaller boats in mind. It’s 5 inch, daylight viewable full color screen has 320 x 340 pixel resolution for exceptional visibility. Northstars powerful C-MAP NT MAX card brings full chartplotting functionality to this compact sized unit. You also have the ability to store 3000 waypoints and 25 routes, for easy recall later.

The 550 also comes with a built in fuel computer that monitors your fuel flow, fuel remaining, estimated range, and fuel economy. Fuel status is displayed graphically at the bottom of the screen. in order to enable the fuel monitor you will need to purchase the optinoal fuel kit.

The Explorer 550 is also SmartCraft ready, so if your boat is propelled by a compatible Mercury, MerCruiser or Mariner engine you can also monitor its performance on screen.
